KPMG employee takes ICFE to accredit her skills
Anna Madej – Poland

ACCA student Anna Madej is already familiar with financial English through her ACCA studies, but this did not mean that she turned down the chance to take the ICFE qualification. 'I use financial English every day in my professional life, but I thought it would be a good idea to have my skills accredited, and a certificate to prove my ability. Although a prospective employer can assess these skills at interview, a certificate differentiates you as a potential employee, before you reach interview stage.'

Anna currently works for KPMG Warsaw, a post which she took up following an internship. During this time, Anna studied to become a Polish Chartered Accountant as well as starting her ACCA studies.

'I decided to study for ACCA as it is a widely recognised qualification in accounting and financial management. It can lead to good career opportunities not only in English speaking countries but also in Poland, as employers recognise the high standards set by ACCA, and can expect a certain level of quality from ACCA students.'

As her English is already good – she has the First Certificate and Certificate Proficiency in English - Anna didn't have to work hard to take the qualification: 'In fact I didn't study – I just took the exam' she says. 'Also, as English is the language of contemporary communication, as well as the form in which accounting rules are presented (such as IFRS), I didn't need any special preparation.'
