Business English professional recognises importance of ICFE
Rafal Szaniawski – Poland

Rafal Szaniawski is Head of the Language Centre, and a teacher, at the Warsaw School of Social Psychology; he also runs his own company providing business and language courses for corporate clients. Rafal already has the Certificate of Proficiency in English, the Further Certificate for teachers of Business English, and Industry English for Business Level 3. Given his linguistic ability, why did he decide to take the ICFE qualification?

'When planning my career I decided to specialise in business English,' he explains. 'I graduated from the business language department at university with majors in economics, finance and law. However, I wanted to polish my English further and become more confident in my use of financial terminology.

'I also consider both ESOL and ACCA as well established and well recognised, and so I therefore believed that by taking the exam I would gain both an important qualification which would help my career, and new linguistic tools.'

Rafal prepared for the exam using the book 'Professional English in Use: Finance'. 'I prepared for the exam by myself, and I'm now finding that the content was very relevant, as I'm using the terminology and concepts on a regular basis. I am now much more confident when I use financial English, and I hope that by having a qualification in this area, I should improve my chances of promotion to more senior positions.'
